What are bowerbirds?

Bowerbirds are birds that live in Australia. They collect flowers, leaves, stones, and anything else that they find attractive. They use their teasures to create ornately decorated dwellings. Scientists say that they are one of the only non-human species to display both an aesthetic sense as well as the glimmerings of culture.

Like the bowerbird, I'm a collector. These stones were collected from a beach in Southeastern Alaska. The natural beauty of the stones and the area in which they were collected are the inspiration behind this jewelry. Other than the tiny holes that have been drilled, I have not changed the stones in any way. They are just as I found them when they washed up on the beach.
